Theft Bail Questions
What is the difference between petit theft and grand theft?
In Florida, theft of property worth under $750 is usually charged as petit theft, a misdemeanor. Theft of property worth $750 or more is usually charged as grand theft, a felony, with a higher bail amount.
Does a repeat theft charge change the bail amount?
It can. A repeat theft charge, or one that gets enhanced for other reasons, is often treated more seriously by the court, which can mean a higher bail amount even for a smaller dollar amount taken.
How is the value of what was taken decided?
That is decided by the prosecutor and the court based on the case details, not by us. If you are unsure how your charge was valued, that is a question for your defense attorney. We can still help with bail no matter how the charge is filed.
Is shoplifting the same as theft?
Shoplifting is a form of theft, usually charged as petit or grand theft depending on the value of the items involved, the same as any other theft charge.
Do you offer payment plans for theft bonds?
Yes. See our bail financing page for how payment plans work if you would rather not pay the 10% fee all at once.
